BoardMax began as a bootstrapped Windows native application that had grown organically with the company and was showing its age. With competitors offering iOS and Android experiences, the decision was made to reimagine the product as a simplified responsive web application.

Because the primary user base had low technical confidence, the goal was to keep all important features and actions no more than two steps from the home screen.
Process
I immersed myself in the existing application, sat in on client training sessions, interviewed internal stakeholders, and worked with an engaged user panel to identify pain points and gather feedback.
Starting with a whiteboard and a changing wall of notes, I sketched and organized more intuitive flows. I kept an open-door process so people from support to company leadership could review the emerging site map.
Once the information architecture was settled, I built a clickable prototype directly in HTML, CSS, and jQuery. This let us watch stakeholders and users click through real interactions, then quickly iterate when administrative flows tested well internally but failed with real users.
As the prototype was finalized, I polished the front-end code into a production-ready responsive framework for engineering handoff.
